SPECIAL FEATURES TO MONITOR:
These relate to the general forecast which can be found
here
|
Summary: The first 15 days saw
the temperature a degree below average (though the initial first few days of relative warmth helped boost this average)
but there were large rainfall variations, central Scotland saw over 150% of the average expected in the period whilst the
SW saw only 50%. Sunshine was close to average in the east and central parts but the west saw well above
average figures.
This week looks like being rather chilly again initially as an E'ly dominates though less so later on as high pressure to the south brings a much warmer S'ly flow. It looks likely to start unsettled with low pressure to the SE with the risk of rain showers
about and in the north a slight ground frost by night till midweek and
here sunnier and drier for a time to midweek but
more unsettled here later as low pressure affects these parts to bring milder but cloudy damper weather up
from the west; to the south and east though unsettled initially with showery rain at times, some heavy in the SE at first
then after midweek drier with good sunny periods and quite warm
by the weekend though with rather cool nights.
Ground conditions are rather though not especially damp everywhere The week looks reasonably dry though some heavy rain and showers will
fall initially in places in the south and east but after midweek this risk moves further to the northwest
by Friday and into the weekend, as it dries up across England.
Rain amounts- About 10mm seems likely in the first half of the
week in the south and SE parts, maybe later 15-20mm or so in the north and NW though,
locally more over hills; Wales and the SW seems likely to be wettest overall with 15-25mm in all, mostly at and after
midweek; for details (rainfall totals for next 6 days in mm) see http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rmgfs144sum.gif
Field and planting information -generally should be fine on the whole
for most outdoor activity, slightly chilly still by night though for some central northern areas though
less so after midweek -in the north ground frosts still a concern for buds and crops shooting..
but nothing at all like the recent low temps that were well below freezing; still worth protecting them wherever it is possible
though.
